If you have the right connections you can advance your career

Cons

If you have the right connections you can advance your career. Otherwise they treat you like an outsider. Secrets and information only the "elite" is privy to. If you're not part of the inner circle you're left to fend for yourself. Some managers take advantage of their positions and demand a lot of work (and it has to be the best) from their employees while not paying fair salaries or even giving perks. You're expected to work past 5, weekends, and bank holidays if you're not part of the "family" Mediocre people get rewarded and promoted.

co-workers were great, some nice perks and good salary

Cons

In one word - management. Nepotism, lack of judgment, bad communication across a multi-national organization, zero transparency - even with middle management, and once again - nepotism.
