Pros

Great benefits, PTO, and bonuses

Cons

Bad leadership. Micromanaging and tracking every second of my day, which made for a toxic work environment.

Pros

- Mission-driven work in the health and wellness space - Dedicated and talented individual contributors doing their best despite poor leadership

Cons

ZRT Laboratory may be over 25 years old, but from a business standpoint, it still functions like a disorganized startup, marked by resistance to change and reactive leadership. In my experience, there is no clear business strategy, and marketing is not valued or understood as a growth driver. Marketing professionals should be aware: ZRT does not have a clear understanding of what marketing is or how to leverage it strategically. Despite hiring marketers, what it truly wants is a communications or education team—one that can respond to ad hoc requests and push general brand awareness. There is little infrastructure to support customer tracking, retention metrics, or performance, making it difficult to set meaningful goals, measure success, or drive real growth. Multiple marketing teams have attempted to implement systems and processes, only to face resistance. The result is a false sense of productivity while teams are buried in outdated, end-of-life technology that creates more inefficiency than value. Leadership challenges compound these issues. Decision-making is often slow or ambiguous, and cross-functional alignment is minimal. Additionally, I experienced hiring discussions that raised concerns around diversity and inclusion. If you’re a marketing professional looking to make a strategic impact, this may not be an environment where your skills will be utilized or valued.

Pros

The pay is good for the field and the area because it's the only way they could keep a semblance of a workforce. Work-life balance is good unless you're a supervisor or your job security is at risk.

Cons

Upper management does not care about the hostile work environment. HR is limited in ability due to familial ties within the company. Your job security can be compromised at random, which creates an environment of fear. A select few have too much power and act unprofessional with zero consequences. I also find general laboratory management to be extremely ineffective; and I spend a good chunk of my time fixing mistakes than doing my own job.
