Pros

Decent pay Good view from the office Lara Bars/V8's The people who work there Nerf gun wars are permitted

Cons

Sales Process - Beyond short sales cycle. One call close or bust Most managers need to go through an HR class so that they don't spout illegal information Illegal work hours - although the company will say youre only working 8 hours in a day. Because beyond that, nothing is approved. Good luck hitting goal working 8 hours a day. Loud, POUNDING awful music all day everyday. If you do not sit there and make 150 calls in a day, you will fail. There is no support. You manage your clients by yourself (although they seem to be working on this). COUNTLESS UNNECESSARY emails that will basically ruin your day.

I'd like to address your review and ask that, if you are open to it, I can learn more about the serious nature of some of these concerns. The majority of our sales are not one call closes - many deals are closed after several days, weeks and sometimes months. Sales people regularly surpass their targets by working 8 hour days - It's all a question of focus. The vast majority of folks hit their sales targets and though many people start out making 100+ dials/day, they quickly learn how to be more efficient. The average sales person on our team makes well under 100 dials per day. While the sales person is responsible for managing customer issues, there is a large support staff that solves customer issues - the sales person runs point to make sure that the issues are surfaced and that we communicate well with clients. Lastly, our pricing reflects the value we deliver to our clients and with traffic increasing and strong ROI reports from the field, we price exposure accordingly - the reality is that over 50% of our sales each month is to current clients who see the value and view the pricing as reasonable given their ROI. My name is Doug Slotkin and I run the Inside sales team at Zillow and would like to know specifically what illegal information you're referring to. My email address is dougs@zillow.com and my phone # is 206 515 8236.

Pros

Great company , lots of growth opportunity's for the right people, Casual dress code, great job all around as long as you work hard. Good money can be made. Loved helping Real Estate Agents in changing their lives for the better by driving new business their way. You go home feeling great about what you did for others. Sure you work hard make allot of calls but the rewards are worth it and the work you put into it. They treat you with wonderful incentives like free lunches, snacks, drinks, great company rallies, and motivate you to be your best.

Cons

Even if you are making your quota, call time and have a great retention rate with your clients, its not enough to keep your job. I really loved my job, but if you upset the wrong manager you are gone, I watched this manager let go great people with great potential over the fact the manager just did not like the person, its a well known fact and spoke about often. If you kiss butt and make that manager feel good about themselves you are golden, If you come in do your job and do not wish to participate in being a cheerleader, then walk away now. I was in extreme fear if I brought this up I would have lost my job. Instead I put my head down and did my job. I took pride in my job, loved my agents and excited about what Zillow's future had for all of us. Upper management may or may not be aware of this, a real shame if they do. I would have stayed with this company forever and continued to exceed my numbers and help the company grow. Knowing that one persons opinion of you can change your whole life is extremely sad.

I am really sorry to hear your impression of our work environment and decision making process. Decisions like the one you referenced are made with full consensus of the sales management team. We don't decide to let sales people go when they are performing the way you described, unless there was a sales ethics, reliability or other issue that negatively impacts fellow sales people or our client relationships. Our sales culture values performance, not the degree to which a sales person butters up his or her manager. It sounds like you had some success at Zillow and I'm hopeful that this will help you do well in your next opportunity.

Pros

Zillow is a GREAT product for both an agent and the consumer. Exceptional sales team, casual attire, benefits, beautiful location.

Cons

There is no work-life balance. You are informed last minute that you must show up to a "roll out" the next morning extremely early. They offer great lunches but that is because you take your food back to your desk to scarf it down and get back on the phone. You do have great benefits but never have time to use them as you cannot leave your desk. Extreme micromanagement. The VP will email you at noon if your call time is not up to par as it is not the "Zillow Way". Great glorified telemarketing position for an individual with little education and relatively no sales experience.

I am disappointed to read that your experience at Zillow hasn't been as good as you'd like it to be. It is up to the sales person to manage their day and therefore their work life balance. I think if you asked our sales team about the degree to which they have a good balance, the vast majority would tell you that Zillow allows you to work hard and then have a full life outside of work. We manage folks so they can get the most of out of their potential and achieve their income and career path goals - People are free to eat their lunch out or away from their desk and managers are not micro managing people's schedules - that said, if a sales person is struggling and/or not putting forth the needed effort, we are certainly hold folks accountable. Our customers would tell you that our sales people are consummate professional sales people, not telemarketers. As you alluded to, we have the best product out there and it's incredibly satisfying to hear back from your clients about their success and be thanked profusely for cold calling them to get them on board. My name is Doug Slotkin and I run the Inside Sales team - I would suggest you work with your manager or me to figure out how we can make your experience better at Zillow.
