Pros

Great view, benefits, income potential, and energy. Company is progressive and aggressive in pursuing new business and revenue streams.

Cons

For me it was inside sales...I thrive on building interpersonal relationships with my clients. Also a quick sales cycle that doesn't require much consulting. It is tough to get people on the phone!

Bureaucratic, but trying to remain within startup culture.

Pros

Pretty good perks all around, such as a great office spaces and food. Work is stable and secure, not a lot of change, so it's easy to get comfortable. They generally seem to care about their employees (investors first though). The mantra is to further the experiences of home owners, buyers, and renters, which is a noble cause.

Cons

Definitely corporate. From a full service IT team to full service HR team, it's much harder to get things done with you require manager approval on any little thing. Additionally, the upper management does not seem to have a good idea on the activities of smaller teams. They instill odd raises and promotion structures without the advice of managers, so some people are left in the dust. There are also strange hiring practices, when a team needs new employees, It is clear that certain teams are favored (as they are the ones who are able to hire constantly with little approval process).

Thank you for your review - I'm glad you're having a good experience at zillow. I'm sorry you find the comp low; hopefully we're working on improving that for you and others. Historically our cash comp was lowerish because we were privately held and venture-backed. As we made the transition to being a public company, we increased cash comp to be more similar to other companies that we compete with for talent (e.g., Amazon, Microsoft). In most cases we now feel that we stack up very well, especially considering the equity component of our compensation, and other advantages of being at Zillow -- career development, relative autonomy, interesting work. Oh, and the fact that we're winning, and winning is fun. Anyway, comp is an important part of the overall equation, and something I/we are watching closely.
