Pros

Bonuses have been consistently good over the last several years. Benefits are industry-standard, and the existence of a pension is extremely helpful.

Cons

If you're connected with any of the revenue-generating parts of the business (Exploration and Production and potentially Refining), your work quality of life is much better than if you're a more downstream function (such as the shared services in Corporate and Functions). If you're in C&F or any of the downstream functions, expect much smaller salaries/raises and no attention to be paid to your business unit. Change is frequent within the organization, and expect it to come from the top down with little warning or input from those affected; Big Oil is a command-and-control organization and the phrase "this way or the highway" is how management does things there. Management is also very disconnected from day-to-day operations and governs from such a remote distance that it feels like they truly don't understand what they're managing.
