      eBay- a great place to learn the online business but not one where you want to stay long term.

      Pros

      Good Benefits- medical, dental, stock options (for management), matching 401(k), exercise facility. Opportunities for training and building your personal skills. The company is full of intelligent people to learn from. A good place to learn about how internet business works. Very fast paced organization, never a dull moment.

      Cons

      Bloated infrastructure and organization. Change is slow and by the time it happens is often outdated. Executive buy-in on projects is difficult to maintain throughout the life of projects especially large long term projects. Lot's of red tape to cut through to get projects approved, too many departments. Very few opportunities for career advancement.

      * Never a shortage of projects to keep you busy * Structured environment in which to grow skills * Do you like scale? We've got it. * Clear career path and opportunities if you are good at what leadership cares about * Decent benefits and fair compensation * Work/Life balance was a theme coming from leadership a while back. If you are very careful managing your time, you can have a life most of the time

      * No broadly accepted vision or strategy for the company * Executive management not in touch with day to day realities * Sometimes tense relationship between product management and development

      The stagnation of a company.

      Pros

      Looks good on a resume, compensation is reasonable, benefits are good part of a well known respectable global organization. There are some really smart people at eBay and as a result there is the potential to learn a great deal.

      Cons

      Company has had no momentum in the past 4 years. Its bureaucratic, bloated, slow moving, and all within a stale, stiff and unmotivated culture. Many of the people who are in upper management have been there forever and have never had any challenge growing eBay in the past. Now that eBay has stopped growing they are unsure how to move forward.
