Good environment but low pay

Pros

The people are nice, supportive, and knowledgeable. The flexibility with remote work during COVID-19 has been nice. Good place to start a career.

Cons

The pay is significantly below the market value which has resulted in higher than usual turnover. It’s simply not commensurate with the amount of work/responsibilities and the complexity of the domain. With remote work proliferating in the market, people have more options many of which come with a big pay bump—not because other companies pay its employees a lot more but because nCino is that much below the current market average. The teams are understaffed (relative to the organizational goals).

An okay place to work with changes needed

Pros

Work life balance is great. I never needed to work after hours and they offer lots of fun perks in the summer like paddle boarding and surfing. The office environment was pretty fun and flexible pre-covid. The majority of people are nice, smart and pleasant to work with. I felt like I got valuable experience here. Benefits are great.

Cons

The pay is far below industry standard (even for nc). They used to get away with this due to the lack of large employers in Wilmington. But with remote work increasing, people have left for pay increases that range from 50-60%. Promotions are typically done based on time in role instead of merit so it can take a while to move up in the company. This also means you will have different roles levels doing the same level of work. Management and leadership are filled with under qualified employees who got in at the right time. Those who joined the company 5+ years ago are treated like royalty and can get away with doing very little work and professional development. Because of this there are very few opportunities for mentorship and growth. They’re also weirdly resistant to remote work and just spent a ton of money building a new office. Also, don’t trust the overly positive reviews. The companies is always asking people to post reviews and there are a lot of people who drink the koolaid.
