Pros

Working for LEGO was very interactive, fulfilling and fun. Great work environment with great people that supported a company mission higher than profits. Challenging work made me excited to go in every day. I would recommend working there to anyone in the retail industry. Benefits are top notch!

Cons

Just like anyplace else there are cons. The most enjoyable part of our job is watching kids eyes light up every time they walk into the store. Over the years you build relationships and become part of their family; watching their building skills and enthusiasm for building grow. LEGO is more than just a toy for some. Brick by brick, you cultivate friendships, live in the moment, make and share memories by providing a escape from the reality that children cope with chronic illness. The hardest CON working at the LEGO Store is coping with the death of children that you have nurtured throughout the years.

Pros

Lego was my first job and I've worked at two locations, with 3 different managers, two assistant managers and more brick specialists than I can count. Two of those managers were terrible, one lazy and didn't care (and recently fired after 6 years) and the other hired only because her husband (the lazy one I just mentioned) reccomended her. She on the other hand was controlling and only hired mindless robots. We now have a new DM and store manager and I can truly say that things are looking up. I look forward to going to work, our manager encourages us to have fun and truly inspire the builders of tomorrow. But I think there are still more changes that could be made. Other pros are the employee discount, the employee Christmas gift, yearly bonus, and managers get a monthly allowance that mine uses to buy us food on the weekends or busy holidays.

Cons

There is not a lot of opportunity for upward movement or availability of hours. When obamacare started they made sure to not schedule any part timers over 27 hours ever. There is also a high turnover rate which makes it hard for the tenured employees to keep everything running smoothly. We are constantly training new people. Our store also has about 20 employees currently with our manager looking for more, which means less hours for everyone. Some people average 10-15 hours which is not livable but we are asked to have open availability and sometimes management is not always willing to work with another jobs schedule.
