Management is nonexistent. You will be promised the world they say anything to make people stay. The company has gone downhill and has been spiraling for years but you will be blamed for it all and expected to provide a fix ASAP.

Work in a small team. Usually the mechanic and the apprentice. Great pay, Excellent benefits. Retirement, 401K. Best medical dental and vision insurance hands down! Six-figure job without a college degree! Paid while going to National Elevator Industry Educational Program one day a week for 4 years. When you pass your mechanics exam, you are a couple of credits short of a bachelor's in applied science! Overtime is double time, Holidays are triple time! Mechanics and Apprentices are backed by the International Union of Elevator Constructors. Four, ten-hour work days.

Cons

The work is extremely demanding on your body and mind. You have to deal with people that have no business being in the construction field. Some managers will never go out to a job and check on the hoistway while it's being built. When the mechanic gets there to install the elevator, the General Contractor is ready to fist fight because he's being charged tens of thousands of dollars in change orders and extreme delays in progress because of things that should have been caught prior to the mechanic even getting there.
