Banner values nurse input and involvement. There are many ways to become involved in committees and projects within each unit that allow you to have an impact on the care your patients receive. Banner also provides opportunities for ongoing education and leadership, like becoming certified in a specific area or skill or becoming a preceptor or charge RN. I am proud to be a part of a hospital and program that is relentlessly improving, always striving to provide better care for patients. A fitting example of this is BUMCT attaining Comprehensive Stroke status two years ago. Theresa Foster MS, RN, Neuro ICU Banner – University Medical Center Tucson

I will never forget the first time I gave a patient tPA (a lytic drug given to stroke patients to help reduce long-term impairment). The patient arrived by EMS for stroke-like symptoms, and she was unable to talk or move the left side of her body. Because of the amazing teamwork with EMS, our doctors, and nurses, the patient received treatment in 13 minutes. Within 30 minutes, the patient’s symptoms had almost fully resolved, and she was able to look up, smile, and say, ‘I can talk”. Tears filled both of our eyes, and at that moment, I knew my heart would forever belong in the Emergency Department. KIMBERLY LIND, RN, BSN Emergency Department/ Faculty Adjunct Instructor Sterling Regional MedCenter

My journey with Banner started seven years ago. I came to Banner with a vast amount of experience, most of which was critical care, cardiac cath, EP. I then switched gears and went into long-term care, assisted living, and home care. After five years, I missed cardiac nursing, so I applied to the EP (electrophysiology) nurse navigator position. I became the third nurse navigator in the cardiology department and the first EP nurse navigator for Banner in Tucson. It was an exciting time. Along with my teammates, I developed the role of the nurse navigator. This ultimately led me to develop the EP nurse navigator role. The most satisfying part of the job is teaching patients about their disease, aligning their fears around their disease process and procedures. Patients are truly grateful that they have someone who does this for them. Jennifer Chiaia-Price Ambulatory Cardiac Nurse Banner - University Medical Center Tucson

My journey with Banner Health began five years ago through Banner Staffing as a Certified Medical Assistant. I quickly transitioned to a core staff member supporting electrophysiology in Tucson, AZ. I take pride in the care we provide and strive to treat every patient as I would a family member. I am honored to work alongside extremely talented providers however, a provider is only as good as their support team. I truly believe teamwork makes the dream work! I also recently graduated in January 2021 with my Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration. I am excited to see my future growth with Banner Health!
