On Wednesday, May 12, the San Antonio United Negro College Fund (UNCF) announced Broadway Bank as the 2021 UNCF Keeper of the Flame Award winner. CEO David Bohne accepted the award on behalf of Broadway Bank during the virtual UNCF Mayor’s Luncheon. The award is given to funders, businesses or corporations who advocate the importance of providing access to education and opening doors to deserving students who could not otherwise afford the cost of college. Over the years, Broadway Bank has awarded scholarships to college students and Broadway Bankers have contributed their time and resources to support UNCF students through reading days, workshops, training sessions, and many more activities that prepare students to be successful candidates when they enter the workforce.

With food insecurity increasing throughout the pandemic, we wanted to deepen our partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank to help them meet the demand. We proudly sponsored a Mega Food Distribution at Brooks City Base where Broadway Bankers gathered to volunteer and spread smiles to more than 700 families. In addition to supporting the distribution event, Broadway Bank donated $50,000 to support the Second Serving Program, a food rescue initiative collecting and distributing prepared food to those in need. The Broadway Bank refrigerated truck is part of a fleet of vehicles that pick up millions of pounds of donated food in the region each year. One of our Broadway Bankers said it best, "Doing good for our community on Good Friday feels special. Thank you, Broadway Bank and the San Antonio Food Bank for your commitment to helping our friends and neighbors.“

Books have the power to transport us into faraway lands, historical times and greater tomorrows. It was a pleasure sharing our personal stories with these students and discussing the tales of dynamic leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks that inspire us to dream big.

Broadway Bank kicked off the holiday season with our Holiday Nights In Lights event, a drive-thru employee appreciation event unlike any other. Despite the challenges, Broadway Bankers accomplished new and exciting innovations that positively impacted our customers and our employee culture. They stay dedicated to our mission and continue to go above and beyond to deliver first-class customer service. To celebrate, Broadway Bank invited employees and their families to Enchanted Springs Ranch in Boerne to enjoy the festive light displays from the comfort of their vehicle. This special event delivered the holiday spirit through hot cocoa, giveaways, photo backdrops, friendly characters, and a visit from Santa. Friendly alpacas poked their heads into vehicles, festive rodeo clowns performed rope tricks, and a dancing pumpkin waved hello as attendees passed. Thank you to our talented workforce for all you do!
