More and more, smart devices are becoming a part of the treatment we provide. When Umar Sofi, M.D., Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, recognized an area where a smart device could improve patient care, he began working with Carilion Clinic Innovation (CCI) and the Virginia Tech College of Engineering to create a prototype. Dr. Sofi's invention—called a flow-regulated nasal oxygen delivery system (FRNDS) —is currently in development and would allow health care providers to eliminate manual oxygen adjustments and monitoring.
