“The co-op had previously announced a goal to reduce carbon emissions 20-30% by 2030, but our organization determined it is not only feasible, but imperative to go all the way and strive for complete carbon neutrality,” said Stan Ryan, President and CEO of Darigold. “We know that fiscal and technological hurdles remain, as well as some challenges with yet unknown solutions, but existing stewardship projects have dramatically improved the outlook of achieving carbon neutrality, driving our confidence to announce this goal.”
“We are concerned for our communities as people face significant hardships caused by the pandemic,” said Stan Ryan, Darigold president and CEO. “Giving back is the right thing to do now and has always been a core value for our co-op. Our member-owners care deeply about their animals, the environment and participating in their communities. Supporting organizations that work to fight food insecurity is one of our main philanthropic pillars.”
Darigold benefited from an early response to the COVID-19 crisis in part because our headquarters are based in the first U.S. state to have a confirmed diagnosis (Washington). As a result, we were able to activate our pandemic plan at the end of February, taking immediate steps to protect our employees, producers and communities. We also had an early glimpse at some of the challenges in Asian markets, so we were able to anticipate what we would face in our domestic supply chain and take proactive measures to mitigate economic fallout. Throughout this pandemic we have closely followed guidelines issued by the CDC and public health officials. Where possible we encouraged employees to work from home. In cases where that isn’t possible, we implemented policies to protect our essential workers — including social distancing protocols, extra cleaning and health checks at all plants and offices. Anyone with potential COVID-19 symptoms is sent home to self-quarantine and rest. Naturally we fully support staying home to flatten the curve, but we look forward to being united again soon.
We are thrilled to share this very exciting news with you. The Boise expansion will allow us to put our high-protein, low-sugar, lactose-free #DarigoldFIT in the hands of even more consumers. With no artificial ingredients and less resource-intensive packaging, not to mention the nutritional benefits, this is a win win for everyone. As always, a huge thanks to the 430 or so Northwest Dairy Association farm families across Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington who make all of this possible.
"The cultured dairy category is headed toward expanded usage occasions, and dairy processors need to help make it easy for consumers to add cultured foods to their weekly shopping baskets." Read about the current state and challenges facing cultured dairy products and how Darigold and others are rising to the challenges.
