Meet Wenxin Peng (she/her), an Engineering Manager for Machine Learning at Discord! When she’s not working with her team to turn fresh concepts into a reality, she is tending to her house plants, reading books, or doing one of Chloe Ting’s killer home workouts. Wenxin appreciates how she can bounce ideas across the entire Discord team. Her collaborative, open-minded teammates help her quickly solve complex problems and grow as a professional. “I’m grateful to work alongside talented coworkers and learn from them on a day-to-day basis – the learning experience is the biggest reward. Sometimes, a solution or creative idea emerges in a conversation, and that’s what makes my day.” Are you an engineer who wants to learn from some of the brightest minds in the industry? Say hello to Sam Grossberg (he/him), one of our Software Engineering Managers at Discord! Off the clock you’ll find Sam taking advantage of our quarterly fitness benefit to go skiing, rock climbing, and do many other thrill seeking, heart racing outdoor activities. With experience in community and social media software, Sam was ready to challenge himself by working on a platform that’s supported by subscriptions instead of ads. He shared his story about what led him to pursue an opportunity at Discord: “I knew [Discord] was becoming a popular communication tool for Gen-Z, so I responded to a cold email from a recruiter, which I almost never do! The interview process left me feeling energized and excited which… also isn’t how I usually feel after interviews.” If you’re interested in working on a product so many people love and use everyday, look no further!

Meet Risa Pesavento (she/her), one of Discord’s Software Engineers for Homefeed and Notifications Machine Learning! Whether she’s jumping into a voice channel to talk or just sharing some good music while working, Risa is constantly finding different ways to integrate Discord into her daily communication. Inspired by Discord’s vision to create communities for everyone, Risa happily joined the team to spread our mission further. In doing so, she learned that this vision is not just for Discord users, but for those on the Discord team as well. “Everyone I have worked with at Discord has been friendly and inclusive. Discord has employee-led ERGs which create an inclusive space for members of underrepresented groups. I personally joined a womxn’s mentorship circle where we discuss career growth and learn from each other.” If you want a workplace where teamwork makes the dream work, take a look at our engineering jobs!
Say hello to Bo Ingram (he/him), one of our Senior Software Engineers! Even before he worked with us, Bo found himself in a multitude of Discord servers to connect with friends, for gaming, to catch up on sports…the list goes on. Managing millions of users is no joke, and Bo is helping behind the scenes to ensure TRILLIONS of messages are sent and calls are clear – all in a speedy manner. And the best part? The love and excitement that goes into it all. And it doesn’t stop there – Bo’s not only connecting communities worldwide, but building belonging internally as well. “I was truly amazed to experience firsthand just how dedicated everyone is to building belonging and making the product and company the best it can be. Now, a year and a half in – I’ve seen it show up a billion different ways. Whether it’s pushing for changes to make something more user-centric or the whimsical designs on internal swag, that focus and care are apparent everywhere.” If Bo’s story strikes a chord with you, take a look at our engineering jobs!
Meet Kamilla (she/they), a Senior Software Engineer here at Discord! Kamilla has been a member of our team for FIVE years. The thing that surprised them the most when they first started? The amount of autonomy they had. With that level of trust, not only has their skill set as an engineer grown, but so has their overall confidence. We love that for them! Whether they’re playing games like MapleStory and VALORANT, or window shopping for mechanical keyboards, Kamilla likes to connect with other gaming and computer enthusiasts through various Discord servers. In fact, they’ve been finding community through our platform long before working here. “I think I do my best work when I’m building something that I use regularly - that way I’m actually engaged and it doesn’t really feel like a job. Discord is something I’ve been using since 2015 to communicate with my friends daily, so it made sense to come build something I cared about. It was really a no-brainer for me.”

Meet Irene, Director of People Operations at Discord and member of the Hispanic and Latinx Employee Resource Group (ERG) La Cafetería. The ERG gives Irene a safe space of support where she can be open, share memories from her heritage, and engage in tough conversations without judgement. For career advice, Irene says: "Do not underestimate your skills or experience just because they don't follow the status quo. Apply for that job. Ask for that raise.
