EDEN AUTISM VIRTUAL JOB FAIR - 2/19/26
Teaching Assistant Giselle Lobo has a long history of working with autistic students. Originally from India, Giselle earned her teaching degree at Boston University. “The first time I experienced inclusive education was when I was doing my practicum, and it was this ah-ha moment,” she said. “I knew it was something I wanted to take back to India.” After earning her degree, Giselle went back to India and started life skills resource rooms within the school system. For the first time, disabled students were partaking in activities with their neurotypical peers. She worked very closely with parents and focused on daily living and life skills, both inside and outside of the classroom. The program had positive benefits for both the developmentally disabled students and their neurotypical peers.

Teaching Assistant Amanda Edwards wants everyone to know how capable her students are. “Sometimes people don’t think they’re capable of a lot, but then you really work with them day-to-day, and you see how much they can do,” she said. “From September to June, over the course of a school year, there is so much progress. Maybe they mastered shirt dressing, or now they know all their letters. It’s cool to see where they started and where they are now.”

Before Collin came to Eden, people told his mom, Kimberly, that he would never be able to communicate with her. “They told me that I should just give up,” she said. Today, Collin can tell his parents what he needs or wants and can follow directions. “They gave him a voice,” said Kimberly. “His community was non-existent before, and now his skills have skyrocketed and developed in ways that teachers in other schools told me were impossible.”

Behavior Analyst Matt Frey did not set out to have a career working with autistic adults. He joined Eden in 2013 as a Direct Support Professional, with no prior experience working with Eden’s population. As he got to know the Adult Services participants, he knew he had found his calling. “When I first came in, it was a job, but over time it became less of a job and more of a purpose,” he said.

Eden Autism Adult Services Staff recently hosted a food drive in support of Arm In Arm. Three bins of food were donated just before the Thanksgiving holiday. “It means a lot because we see a lot more families coming to our pantries for food as well as a lot of organizations asking us to donate food to them for their community,” said Shariq Marshall, Arm In Arm Development and Community Engagement Coordinator. “It takes a lot to sustain. It takes help from communication partners like Eden Autism.”

A new partnership with the Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) gives Eden staff the opportunity to earn a Master of Applied Behavior Analysis at the Eden School! The program has several benefits for Eden staff. They have more flexibility in their schedules as they attend classes held at Eden. The program includes a combination of tuition reimbursement and student loan reimbursement, so there is no cost to Eden staff. Most importantly, students can apply what they learn in class to their work in classrooms and day centers.
