As we continue our celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, Annie Wu - AVP of Marketplace Sales - shared that she finds daily inspiration in contemplating the life of one of the most renowned figures of the 20th century: "Few names in history carry the steady influence of Mahatma Gandhi. During AAPI Heritage Month, his life stands out, not for power or conquest, but for his commitment to service and truth. From Champaran to Mumbai, Gandhi’s actions spoke quietly but powerfully, showing that real change comes through compassion and nonviolence. His words, like seeds, spread across the world—offering hope in dark times and courage in the face of fear. 'Be the change you wish to see in the world' wasn’t a command, but a reminder that justice begins with how we live each day. I am reminded of Gandhi's abiding model, a clarion call that resounds all the more powerfully today. His life teaches me, and so many others, that authentic leadership is not a pursuit of dominance but a lifelong devotion to justice, dignity, and the betterment of all. In a world still yearning for kindness and truth, Gandhi’s spirit reminds us that the most powerful leaders serve with love, fight with grace, and lead with the unwavering light of their own integrity. His footsteps have left an indelible path that I, and so many others, walk humbly to trace."
During Nurse’s Week, we spotlighted nurse Latanya Townsend-Gates, Lead, Total Population Health Pre Service-Utilization Management at EmblemHealth. In this video, Latanya shares how nurses do so much more than hands on bedside care, they lead, coordinate, educate, and support patient care at every level. Her story is a powerful reminder that the skill and compassion of nurses can be present across all phases of health care. Thank you to Latanya and to all nurses for the many ways you make a difference every day.
Breakfast, bold ideas, and a lot of brilliant questions; our third-year welcoming 10th graders from James Madison High School during Career Discovery Week was full of energy and insight. After kicking things off with a team-building icebreaker led by the dynamic Nicholaos Papadopoulos, SHRM-CP (thank you, Nick!), the students jumped right in, bringing sharp thinking, fresh perspectives, and a clear passion for health care. From creative proposals for improving health outcomes in their communities to a Q&A session that kept our leaders on their toes, these students showed up ready to challenge, question, and imagine a great future for themselves in the fields of health and health care. We’re inspired by their curiosity and drive, and grateful for the chance to be part of their exploration. Thank you to the Partnership for New York City and the NYC Public Schools for their support.
As Women’s History Month came to a close, we shared a final reflection from AVP of Community Affairs Ann Marie Adamson-Serieux. Throughout March, our colleagues have shared stories of remarkable women who have shaped their own lives and careers. For Ann Marie, inspiration isn’t found in just one figure - it’s in women across the spectrum. From pioneers in history to everyday trailblazers, she reminds us that Women’s History Month isn’t just about looking back; it’s about celebrating the collective strength, resilience, and contributions of women everywhere. Hear Ann Marie's reflection at the link.
Our celebration of Women’s History Month reflecting on the national theme, “Moving forward together! Women educating and inspiring generations,” continues with Judith Zwillenberg, MPH’s tribute to her grandmother, United States Marine Corps Sergeant Rose Sankey Blum: My maternal grandmother’s story is an inspiration to me this Women’s History Month. Grandma Rose was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, at a time when women weren’t visible in the military let alone in leadership roles. Her experiences from that time remind me to navigate life with grit (and humor) and to take action when called upon, like when she joined up when her country needed her. Being a part of her legacy, I honor her memory every month, but especially this Women’s History Month.
