Meet Ashley, our summer associate from the University of Connecticut! “I have a personal connection to EmblemHealth. It was my insurance carrier when I was a child. Being able to use my skills now to assist the Compliance team in helping the company steer clear of regulatory risk is amazing. Additionally, the company has a clear commitment to diversity and inclusion, which is very important to me. In honor of Pride Month 2022, Prism, our employee resource group for LGBTQ+ colleagues and allies, gathered to focus on the LGBTQ+ community’s journey in law and society. Prism leaders Debra Lightner and Greg Rider, CPTD, CHC (he/his) hosted a program that featured employees Carly Borenkind, LCSW, speaking to the significant impact that marriage equality has had on her life, and Karla Duffy addressing the challenges faced by her LGBTQ+ children as they make a life in a state that has passed anti-LGBTQ+ policies. "Legislation like Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law contributes to the increased suicide risk among LGBTQ+ youth," Carla commented. Heather Betz, director of NY Lesbian and Gay Law Project at New York Legal Assistance Group, also joined for a celebration of LGBTQ+ legal accomplishments and historic precedent. GREGORY L. JOHNSON was on hand to introduce featured speaker Judith M Kasen-Windsor, widow of LGBTQ+ cultural icon Edie Windsor, to address Edie’s legacy, now on display at the New-York Historical Society.
