We are proud to share a recent research study in which Genesis worked with Brown University to study the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines in nursing homes. While this article is a little technical, it shows that the COVID vaccines were protective against COVID infections and reduced the severity and number of deaths among our nursing home residents. As leaders in the industry, we have worked with Brown University throughout the pandemic to publish numerous studies that benefit our residents and the industry as a whole. We are happy to announce that this morning, as expected, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) fully approved Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for individuals 16 years of age and older. It is widely expected that this move will pave the way for additional and much more widespread vaccination requirements throughout the country, including a broad requirement across all of healthcare. It is also expected that many more employers outside of healthcare -- and numerous public settings including movie theaters and restaurants -- will join the rapidly growing list of those who have already announced vaccination requirements.

Kudos to our very own Lillian Reda, CDP, CMDCP, Director, Memory Support Clinical Practice and Education, who was a presenter and panelist along with her Alzheimer's Association Dementia Care Provider Roundtable colleagues, at the recent Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC) held in Denver, CO on July 30th. The AAIC is the world's largest forum for the dementia research community. Among topics discussed were perspectives from long-term and community-based settings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lillian specifically addressed the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Nursing Home sector. The Alzheimer's Association Dementia Care Provider Roundtable represents a consortium of thought leaders from the dementia care provider industry including assisted living, nursing home, and home and community based services.
