"We are pleased to announce that today we are expanding the reach of our HIV and hepatitis C generic licensing agreements to include Malaysia, Thailand, Ukraine and Belarus,” said Gregg Alton, executive vice president, Corporate and Medical Affairs, Gilead Sciences. “At Gilead, we are committed to widening access to our lifesaving medicines around the world and have been holding discussions with government officials, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community groups about the issues these four countries experience in enabling access to HIV and hepatitis C therapies. In light of these talks, we believe that including Malaysia, Thailand, Ukraine and Belarus in our direct HIV and hepatitis C licenses, as well as with the Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) for HIV, will help address the challenges these countries face in achieving the broadest access to medicines for their patients. These agreements will include all of our HIV and HCV products."
This year, Gilead's Access, Medical & Corporate Affairs leaders and Gilead Executive Chairman were recognized for their work in helping to eliminate HCV in Georgia by Georgia's Prime Minister, Health Minister and the former Prime Minister.
