Phoenix Children's full-time employed facility dogs, Gertie and Checkers, just celebrated their third work anniversary in July 2024. Gertie, Checkers and their handlers have helped many patients meet treatment goals โ from physical therapy sessions to preparing for an upcoming surgery or procedure.In 2023, our facility dog teams participated in more than 2,200 patient visits and are on track to surpass that number in 2024.

Meet Bella, a member of Phoenix Childrenโs College Intensive Volunteer Program (CIVP). As a pre-med student, Bella knew she wanted to volunteer at Phoenix Childrenโs. Our volunteer program enables her to quickly gain substantial experience in a pediatric hospital setting. When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering at Phoenix Childrenโs, she said, โI enjoy supporting and interacting with patients. I know I made their day and hospital stay better.โ

Phoenix Children's opened a new urgent care center for families in the East Valley. The new location in Mesa, at 9319 E. Cadence Pkwy., provides quality pediatric urgent care every weekday, from 5 โ 11 p.m., and on weekends, from 10 a.m. โ 7 p.m.
