Water scarcity is becoming a concern in many communities, and outdoor irrigation is often the largest use of water at home. According to the EPA, the average U.S. household uses more water outdoors than for showering and washing clothes combined. Achieving a healthy, attractive garden or lawn doesn’t have to mean contributing to the problem of water scarcity. Many communities are helping their residents and homeowners use less water outdoors through education and product rebates. Here are a few tips on how you can do your part to use water wisely at home and help keep your local water resources healthy and abundant. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQWJ7
Our team for Pelotonia has officially kicked off their recruiting and fundraising efforts for the grassroots organization’s 10-year anniversary event. Pelotonia President and CEO Doug Ulman visited our campus in Marysville, Ohio, in April. He shared with our associates his personal story about his fight with cancer. He also talked about how Pelotonia is more than a bike ride – it’s about building a community. We have been a proud supporter of Pelotonia and part of this community for 9 of the past 10 years. And our team has helped raise over $1.7 million. 100% of the funds raised by our associates have gone directly toward funding life-saving cancer research.
We set a goal eight years ago to help create 1,000 community gardens and greenspaces, and we'll be realizing that goal next week when we dedicate the 1,000th GRO1000 garden in Columbus, Ohio. The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation Children’s Garden at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a garden like no other. This innovative, 2-acre garden provides hands-on, interactive experiences intended to introduce and to connect young children and their families to nature. Franklin Park Conservatory President and CEO Bruce Harkey says, "Our hope is that the new Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation Children's Garden will inspire today's children to care about nature and create a desire in them to protect it for generations to come."
Over 60 associates and family members from our Marysville plant participated in the Capital City Half Marathon, Quarter Marathon and 5K in Columbus this past weekend. They did it in honor of an associate who was recently diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Andy was presented with his medal on Sunday, and he was extremely grateful to all who were out to support him. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQ6fH
We're celebrating our 150th anniversary this year! Our company was founded in 1868 by O.M. Scott in Marysville, Ohio. He believed that farmers should have clean, weed-free fields. Take a look at this video snapshot of our company's history and our brands. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQ6R8
