The “Ward's 50” list was announced by the Ward Group®, an operational consulting firm and leading provider of benchmarking and best practices services to the insurance industry.
In 2024, the Shelter Insurance® Diversity Internship Program has been recognized for the fourth consecutive year as a top insurance internship opportunity by the Rising Insurance Star Executives (RISE) organization.
Shelter Insurance® announced today that they ranked #1 in Forbes’ 2024 World’s Best Insurance Companies list for auto insurance. They also ranked #10 for homeowners insurance. Forbes contracted research firm Statista who compiled lists of top companies by surveying more than 45,000 customers in 15 countries between January and March of 2024. 298 insurance companies made at least one of the lists. Shelter was ranked #1 out of 160 for auto insurance and #10 out of 130 in homeowners insurance.

Come on out for the official start of the holiday season at Shelter with the 58th Annual Tree Lighting event on November 30 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Home Office. As with tradition, the West Middle School band will be in attendance to perform its holiday showcase. The tree will be lit at approximately 6:15 and be broadcast live on KOMU 8 News (NBC station in Columbia). Not only can you get in the holiday spirit, but Santa will also make a special appearance. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be making an appearance, and children will get a chance to wave at them. ***NEW THIS YEAR are even more features to the event. On top of the magical experience of watching the tree be lit, Shelter is also offering horse drawn carriage rides until the end of the event at 7:30 p.m. This is the first time Shelter has done anything like this! Shelter looks forward to seeing you there and experiencing a new facet of this storied tradition as you get into the magical holiday season with you and your family.

Shelter Insurance Companies today announced the retirement of current President & CEO Randa Rawlins effective April 30, 2024. Randa became President on January 1, 2021 and added the CEO title on July 1, 2021. Her retirement will bring an end to her 22-year career with Shelter Insurance. She first became General Counsel for the group on April 15, 2002. She has served in many roles during her career, including serving as Secretary to the Companies and the Board of Directors, as well as oversight of Government Relations, Claims, Information Services, Information Security, Internal Audit and Marketing. Rawlins will remain on the Board of Directors. “Randa has provided strong and gracious leadership during the post-COVID years, as well as a challenging period of storm losses. We are thankful for her leadership and appreciate her willingness to assist in the transition to a new leader,” said Chair of the Board Rick Means. Her successor, elected by the Board of Directors, will be Rockne Corbin, who will assume the role of President on January 1, 2024 and CEO on May 1, 2024. Rockne is a 32-year employee of Shelter, with many of those in Claims and Reinsurance operations. Most recently, as Executive Vice President, he has led the companies’ operations in Claims, Actuarial, Underwriting, Reinsurance and Alternate Channels. Means said, “We are pleased to have succession planning that will provide a smooth transition and look forward to Rockne’s leadership.”
