Starting with tax year 2023 reporting, the IRS now requires financial institutions or withholding agents filing 10+ information returns to file Form 1042 electronically. Our guide to efiling form 1042 covers the top things to keep in mind this reporting season, including: ✔️Form 1042 is required to be filed electronically for tax year 2023. ✔️Form 1042 is NOT filed in FIRE – it is filed in Modernized eFile (MeF). MeF System applications take up to 45 days to be completed and must be renewed annually. ✔️Currently, there is no method to request a waiver from filing Form 1042 electronically.
