Earlier this month, we welcomed Akio Toyoda to Texas to deliver his global message for the second year in a row. Akio recapped 2018 and gave us a sneak peek of what's ahead in 2019 as we build the future of mobility, together. Thank you, Akio for reminding us that we can "inspire the world with our actions, with our hearts, and with our imagination. Together we can do it. Because together, we are Toyota.” Read more about his message: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQbGW

We’re welcoming 2019 by looking back at some of our favorite memories from 2018: Akio visiting Plano, TX for his global address, Starting our Impossible as a sponsor of the Olympic and Paralympic games, making strides in the mobility space with new tech like e-Palette, Hui, and TRI Platform 3.0, new product releases, and the countless hours team members spent building the future of mobility and giving back to the community. We've had an amazing year filled with continuous improvement (kaizen), collaboration, and kindness. To our team members across North America: thanks for filling our year with purpose, growth, and fun! Here’s to making 2019 even better. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQ3lE

We do what’s right so we can change the world – one community at a time. In that spirit, over 450 Toyota volunteers joined Together We Rise, an organization working to uplift local children in foster care, to build 400 bikes and decorate 400 duffle bags (“sweet cases”). Bikes were assembled using the Toyota Production System (TPS), and a tool created by the Quality Team using a 3D printer, which allowed volunteers to build a bike every 48 seconds! Growing up, Laura and her family spent their summers working 12-14-hour days picking asparagus and zucchini as migrant workers. Driven to start her impossible, Laura focused on her studies, and through a Toyota-sponsored recruiting event at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, she was hired as a co-op at our manufacturing plant in San Antonio (TMMTX). At TMMTX, she immediately got involved with D&I through TODOS, Toyota’s Latino business partnering group, and since then, has represented Toyota at numerous speaking engagements, raising awareness and helping change perceptions about migrant workers. Now, as co-chair of TODOS, at our headquarters in Plano, Texas, Laura believes she “has a platform to fully express myself, and although ethnicity is certainly one part of diversity, true to The Toyota Way, it’s more about being inclusive. I feel my voice can make a difference.” http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQk7q

Nearly sixty-one years ago, Toyota began its American journey with a single facility in southern California. What started as a single store in a Rambler dealership has evolved into an American institution that continues to bring jobs, mobility, and technology to its communities. Today, Toyota encompasses a presence in every state, including our North American headquarters in Plano, Texas, 10 manufacturing facilities (14 in North America), nearly 1,500 Toyota and Lexus dealerships and 136,000 direct, dealer and supplier U.S. employees. Across the country, our team members work together to help the company embark on the next leg of our American journey as we strive to lead the future of mobility and continue to improve our products and services for our customers.

At Toyota, we have a long-held commitment to Diversity & Inclusion, reflective of the communities where we live, work and play. Our commitment to diversity doesn’t stop within Toyota. Just last week, team members across the Toyota family raised $40,000 and joined more than 2,500 cyclists at AIDS/Lifecycle — a 7 day, 545 mile journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Our Team Toyota cyclists are proving that when we’re free to move, anything is possible.
