Precision health starts with precision data. To make this a reality, we need to build a platform with the highest privacy and security standards, that can ingest high quality data across a depth of modalities. Hear more in the clip below from our CEO Stephen Gillett during his Fortune Brainstorm Health panel discussion about AI and how it can be applied to health care in a way that is trustworthy and safe. Watch the full recorded session below.
To transform health care and meet the challenges of today, we need a fundamental shift to make research, care, and risk protection work better. With our technology capabilities and clinical expertise, Verily has a unique opportunity to build solutions that can help. Our CEO Stephen Gillett and President of Product Development & Chief Medical Officer Amy Abernethy will share more about our new direction with Casey Ross of STAT during their session at STAT Breakthrough Summit on May 4 in San Francisco. Our CEO Stephen Gillett takes the stage today at Fortune's Brainstorm Health conference to discuss AI’s impact on health and how to bolster cybersecurity. The increasing use of AI can accelerate health care by leaps and bounds, but we need to ensure data stays safe.
We continue to drive innovation in cancer research with AI. Together with Google Research, we’re excited to present an upcoming poster at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting. This research describes the prediction of estrogen receptor RNA expression in breast cancer directly from standard (H&E stained) pathology images (poster #5357). Since H&E staining is a fast and inexpensive component of the standard tissue preparation in pathology, this approach has the potential to make gene expression profiling easier and more accessible. Exciting developments are on the horizon for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients, thanks to our efforts with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation to build a longitudinal, patient-centered registry. The data collected over time will help accelerate research and treatment. “Verily is working to develop a more holistic understanding of IBD, with help from those who know their conditions best – patients.” - Amy Abernethy, President, Product Development & Chief Medical Officer, Verily Learn about the research study and how to participate:

Meet Kezia! This #WomensHistoryMonth we’re spotlighting women at Verily and the work they’re doing to advance precision health. First up is Kezia Cook-Robinson, Sr. Privacy Counsel, our vBlack ERG Lead, and Mentor for National Science and Technology Medals Foundation's program for STEM students from underrepresented communities. When we asked her what part of her job excites her most, she said: "Everything!" Kezia shared thoughts about the International Women's Day theme #EmbraceEquity: “I always say that everything we do is a team effort. 'Embrace equity' means that we must all work together to ensure that the opportunity to live your best life is afforded to everyone and everybody no matter their race, ethnicity, gender, or socio-economic status. We must all work on ourselves and collectively together to believe and execute on the fact that we all have the right to live and have equitable access to resources that will make it our best life.”
A look inside precision medicine: New approaches to clinical research bring the potential to reduce costs and increase study diversity, while generating robust evidence. But, we must get data quality right. Amy Abernethy, our President, Product Development & Chief Medical Officer noted: "You have to deal with the data quality challenges that come from combining datasets such as data conflicts from multiple source datasets representing the same variable, which is something we’re working to advance as an industry.” Read more about RWD trends in Inside Precision Medicine, including the opportunity to create next generation trial designs that are more efficient and inclusive:
