Submitted my resume and cover letter online. Reviewed the website, founder and the company press. Thought the company was very interesting. Got a response same day asking if I could come in the next day for an interview. While I didn't have time to prepare, the job interview emphasized bookkeeping, administrative duties such as organizing meetings, maintaining office calendar and electronic filing system, assisting senior staff, data entry, so it seemed more of an admin/support position than controller, but after meeting with the CEO, he made it clear that he was looking for someone with strong financial reporting experience, especially related to a high volume of real estate transactions, mortgage loan interest and ancillary tax issues. Felt a bit like a bait and switch scenario. Had I known the interview would have focused in depth knowledge of the 3 financial statements, I would have spent a couple of days reviewing before going in to interview. I also got a typing test, so that really through me for a loop and made me wonder what was it was they were looking for.
