I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Boots (Guildford, England) in Aug 2012
Interview
The first interview was online and consisted of a series of the same questions worded differently to try and catch you out. This is quite hard if you are not familiar with the terminology they used.
(If you get past that then you go on to the face to face interviews).
A one on one interview talking about job requirements and then taken on shop floor and asked to tidy a section how I thought it should be. Also had to chose a product from the shop floor that I used myself and then promote it to the person as though they were a customer.

The interview process typically begins with an application review, followed by an initial interview. This may be a short phone or video screening, or an in-person interview. During the interview, candidates are asked about their previous customer service experience, availability, and how they would handle common retail scenarios. Some employers may include a short role-play or situational questions to assess communication and sales skills.
