I had a negative and very unprofessional interview experience at boots. I had applied online and received a email saying that I have been put on the waiting list. After 4 weeks of this email, I had then received another email saying that I have been successful and I'm invited for a interview where I had to select a day when I was available. The first time I had put In was the wrong date so I had changed this. This made me have two dates on my account, so Boots had called me asking which was the day I can do for the Interview. On the interview day, I spent my time preparing for it and choosing a product of my choice which I would of had to promote. When I arrived, they took me upstairs and followed the usual procedures by asking my proof to work in the UK ect. Then they had asked me what days I was available on and times that I could do. I said that I would happily be able to do any times on the weekends and after 3pm on weekdays because I'm studying. This is when I became very disappointed when they told me that they can't take me on because I don't match there working hours. This was completely unprofessional as the job had advertised 20 hours and weekends and it doesn't specify any days. I tried to explain to them that when I return to my education I won't be studying 9-3 so I may have availability earlier than 3pm on a weekday, but they weren't considering this and were very adamant that I'm not going to be offered the job. I was given the impression that they didn't want to continue with the interview as they had said they cant give me weekend hours and after 3pm on weekdays. The interviewee came across as quite rude and they weren't happy with what hours I had said, and they weren't willing to negotiate with me or even solve this problem. This could've been dealt more positively by considering my education timetable or simply expressed through with a positive manner. I had still wanted to go through the interview process because I had come all the way and didn't want to completely waste my time (even though I did). The Boots interview consist of structured questions and then they take you to the shop floor where you have to interact with customers and they assess you on this. You also have to choose a product your passionate and promote it. I had prepared for this all and didn't get an opportunity to show my skills. After a while of deciding, they said they would just ask me the standard questions they usually ask, this only took 10 minutes and I was done. I wasn't given a proper interview, in other words, I was totally fobbed off. This experience I had was completely unprofessional, the person doing the interview had told me that they don't usually do they interviews and that the person who does do them wasn't in. I also didn't appreciate the suggestion the interviewee had given me right at they start of the interview. I am currently employed at another job and work weekends only and they recommended to me that if they were me, they would stick with the weekend job.
This whole procedure was handled terribly, this particular Boots really needs sort their organisation out because it was a complete waste of my time.
