I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Boots (Colchester, England) in Sep 2016
Interview
Filled in all my details online (including uploading CV and cover letter) and passed the online assessment. Applied for the job and a few days later got an email saying that all of the interview slots had been filled. However, 2 days later they sent me an email confirming I had an interview and I chose my time and date. The interviewer was about 15 minutes late, but I was able to wait in the staff room where I was offered any drinks, which was very kind of them. I wore a smart shirt, trousers and brogue shoes-which she said would be perfect to work in. The interview lasted around an hour and was actually quite enjoyable. The majority of the questions were scenario ones e.g. If a customer complained of dry hair, what would you recommend? Or how would you treat an elderly customer differently. Or Do you have a favourite product from boots that you've recommended to a friend? We also spent a lot of time on the shop floor where I had to find a gift to match a scenario, help a customer who seemed confused, say how I would rearrange an aisle and then actually rearrange it. I never got asked anything to do with my CV- the main focus was on customer service- they're currently striving for boots to become like John Lewis or hamley's with its customer service.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What aisle would you respect a customer's privacy in?
Private interview questions - pretty standard just based on experience and given loads of time to answer. Then taken to shop floor to pick a product and how I would recommend/sell it.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
What would I do if I seen a customer who was looking around the store quite confused
Easy enough interview, just asked the typical interview questions. Thought i fit the role well but did not receive an offer or any reason for not being selected. Interview took place in a cleaning closet, which i did find strange as it was opposite the staff break room.
The interview was an hour long. Questions were
asked around compentencies. I was then brought out onto the floor to interact with customers and demonstrate product knowledge. Overall, it was pleasent, good interview.
