I applied online. I interviewed at Boots (Glasgow, Scotland) in Oct 2017
Interview
Applied online then after a few days I was sent an email to pick a slot for an interview which I did then got sent an email to confirm my slot. I arrived at the store for my interview and went up to the till where a woman took me over to the pharmacy an d told me to wait for a manager to come down, within a few moments the manager came down to greet me. She was incredibly lovely and asked about my morning as we went up to her office. She asked me some questions that threw me a little such as "Describe a time you brought energy and enthusiasm to a situation" or "Describe a time you solved a problem using an unconventional solution". Then she took me down onto the shop floor and asked me some more questions like "A customer was buying a hamper to cheer their friend up, what would you suggest they buy?" and "A customer is looking for a leaving present for a colleague, what you you suggest?". Then I had to take her to my chosen product and describe it (I picked their own brand of face scrub) basically I just said why I buy the product and what is in it that helps my skin. Then I was asked to sell a two in one day and night cream to another customer assistant as the store was a little quiet. After that I got asked to discreetly identify who I thought was a confident or nervous customer and why I thought that. I also got asked which if there were any customers I would avoid, I said I would be happy to help all customers but would be cautious about approaching those in aisles such as sanitary products or sexual health product. Then I was allowed to browse one of the aisles and got asked how I would tidy it or make it look more presentable. Then she said that was all and sent me on my way.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Describe a time you brought energy and enthusiasm to a situation
Private interview questions - pretty standard just based on experience and given loads of time to answer. Then taken to shop floor to pick a product and how I would recommend/sell it.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
What would I do if I seen a customer who was looking around the store quite confused
Easy enough interview, just asked the typical interview questions. Thought i fit the role well but did not receive an offer or any reason for not being selected. Interview took place in a cleaning closet, which i did find strange as it was opposite the staff break room.
The interview was an hour long. Questions were
asked around compentencies. I was then brought out onto the floor to interact with customers and demonstrate product knowledge. Overall, it was pleasent, good interview.
