      Christmas Customer Assistant Interview

      Oct 10, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      London, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Boots (London, England) in Oct 2014

      Interview

I applied on the boots website, then the following day I got an email asking me to complete the psychometric test, which involved scenarios and you had to choose what you'd most and least likely do in those situations. It also involved personality questions such as, are you more of a decision maker, or don't like to be left alone? There was a lot of these questions! A day or two later I received an email from boots telling me that I'd been successful and they wanted me to go in store for an interview. So I clicked the link, chose my interview time and was then emailed again explaining the details of my interview such as when and where it is, who will be interviewing me, what I need to bring, and that I should choose a product I'm passionate about that Boots sell. My chosen product was a nivea soft cream because I found there was a lot to say about it, and it wasn't too specific for an age category, which helped when I was asked how I could interest an elderly person in buying it. So on the day of the interview, I arrived 10 minutes early, and was lead down to the staff canteen while waiting to be called in by the assistant manager for my interview. Once in there, I was asked things like my availability, confirming the role i was applying for, and 4 interview type questions. One was, "why do you want the role at boots?" then there was a couple of tougher ones since I hadn't had any previous jobs before, such as, " when was a time you managed to persuade someone to buy something you thought was a great product?" for which I just used as example of telling my friends about something I bought, and that one of them bought it too. I was also asked "When did you have to increase your knowledge about something in order to tell other people about it?" That was all quite quick, then next we went onto the shop floor, and I was asked a couple of scenario questions such as how would I help someone who used the same shampoo but found it didnt make it glossy. After I was asked to read about a product and then try and sell it to a customer, which didn't work out too well, the person I asked didn't seem that interested. I also was asked to help a couple of customers, but the interviewer stepped in straight away so I didn't really get to showcase my skills. Then I was told to make an aisle look neater while the interviewer went elsewhere for about 10 minutes, during which time some other customers came up to me and asked me questions. I was emailed later the same day telling me I'd gotten the job!! I have yet to start working there, but overall the experience wasn't too daunting, it was quite casual. I don't think I interviewed that well and think I got the job because of my flexibility.
