I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Boots (Glasgow, Scotland) in Jul 2015
Interview
Online test passed fine. I arrived 15 minutes early was taken to the cafeteria. The interviewer was 10 minutes late for me, didn't apologise. I was in the office for about half an hour answering further personality questions similar to the questions which are in the online personality assessment. Then was asked about a time when I had to change my approach to a problem and a time when I had dealt with a difficult customer in a previous work place and other similar questions. I was then taken down to the shop floor and asked to suggest hair products for a teenage girl who had lost the glossiness from her hair. The interviewer then asked me which product I liked and we spoke about the Eyelure eyelashes and why i would recommend them to her, she then asked if I would sell them differently to a teenager and asked me what I would say - basically the same thing. I was then given a tester mascara and told to walk around the store talking to customers about the mascara while the interviewer followed me. Personally I found this far too much and refused to do it. Particularly as I wasn't even given a boots badge or anything to ensure the customers would have known I worked there or was being interviewed.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why boots? What previous work experience do you have? Tell me about a time you delt with a difficult customer? Tell me about a time when you had to try a different approach to a problem?
Private interview questions - pretty standard just based on experience and given loads of time to answer. Then taken to shop floor to pick a product and how I would recommend/sell it.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
What would I do if I seen a customer who was looking around the store quite confused
Easy enough interview, just asked the typical interview questions. Thought i fit the role well but did not receive an offer or any reason for not being selected. Interview took place in a cleaning closet, which i did find strange as it was opposite the staff break room.
The interview was an hour long. Questions were
asked around compentencies. I was then brought out onto the floor to interact with customers and demonstrate product knowledge. Overall, it was pleasent, good interview.
