I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Boots (Plymouth, England) in Sep 2015
Interview
Online application followed by an online questionnaire, after successful completion an invite to interview.
The interview was brilliant, I was interviewed in the city centre branch (Plymouth). It started off in the office with a manager who was really down to earth and jokey, she immediately made me feel comfortable and asked questions about my background (luckily I had a little bit of retail experience but relied on other past roles to answer the scenarios)
I was asked why I wanted to work at boots, I explained that usually the people you work for in retail jobs are brilliant and that the value on teamwork really appeals (it was confirmed that "teamwork" is the boots buzzword so whatever your answers to whatever scenarios get teamwork in there somewhere)
I was then asked about a situation where I had gone above and beyond to help someone, thankfully I had a recent situation where I had done this.
I was then asked about when I had worked in a team and had to go out of my way to help bring the group together.
Then came the shop floor assessment, (I was absolutely bricking this part)!
It started by being asked how I would deal with a customer that had come in looking for a gift for a friend that was upset.
Then it was followed by how I would deal with a customer who had come in for a leaving gift for a colleague.
I then had to use my chosen product (I was fully expecting to have to sell this to the interviewer how wrong I was). I had to go up to customers and try and promote the product, luckily one person was well into it so I could chat about it for long enough to satisfy the interviewer.
I was then asked to walk around and ask customers if they needed help, most didn't but I always added that if they did we were only too happy to help.
after doing this for a while the assessment was over. We went back to the office and I was told that I had the job...... WOHOO!
If I could offer any advice it would be relax, enjoy yourself and smile at everyone. Be positive and remember about the teamwork!
