I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Boots (Hemel Hempstead, England) in Mar 2025
Interview
Got to the interview about 10 minutes early only to have to wait another half an hour in the bleak breakroom after the time the interview was supposed to start. Interviewer didn't even know who she was interviewing with. At the start of the interview, I wasn't even asked questions, just told to fill up a form about my availability. The only few questions I was asked after was about why I wanted to work there and if I have any retail experience. One very unprofessional aspect was when the interviewer went on a rant about the workers and how 'nobody wants to work as a team here' and told me about her experience as a manager where 'people are jealous if you get a higher position' and that she will step down to a lower position because of that. Should have been a red flag for me to run but alas. I then gave my passport to be photocopied and told to wait outside of a room where the interviewer took the photocopy and talked to someone. The manager then comes back to me and tells me I got the job, what shifts I have and what day is my starting day. I also get told to wear all black on the day and that before then I will have to send my national insurance number over in reply to an email I will be sent. Days after the interview I grew increasingly worried as I got no emails and a few days before the day I start, I ask their Boots career team about an update on the interview. They say they haven't received any updates but will let me know about it ASAP. An hour or so later I get a rejection email. Complete waste of my time and extremely unprofessional. There's no need to give verbal offers if they are not 100% sure.
Just standard interview questions to check competency. Felt like a normal conversation nothing too invasive. Just things like that when was one time you delivered excellent customer service or how to do so.

Question 1
Give one time you offered excellent customer service
Not bad, as long as you’re confident, they were very welcoming. It was a bit lengthy but I enjoyed it and come out feeling postive, it’s overall just to see if you’d be a good fit
Quick and easy. Standard retail interview. Was asked to talk about one of their products, to talk about myself. Was asked about my availability too. Good luck if you’re applying!
