I was invited to a 30-min video interview on Zoom following an internal referral. Unfortunately, it was clear from the interviewer's behavior and disinterest in my responses that the interviewer had no intention of considering me for the position. It was a deeply uncomfortable 30 minutes. Following the interview, I sent an email to withdraw my application. In responding to this email, the interviewer referred to me by the wrong name (for the second time; I was also called the wrong name in an email prior to the interview). Despite acknowledgement of my application withdrawal, I still received a generic "thanks but no thanks" email a few days later. I'm not sure I understand the purpose of interviewing a candidate if you're not going to consider them for the job. To fill a quota? I *really* hope companies aren't going through the motions of interviewing candidates who have been referred internally out of obligation to current employees.
