I applied to the FM position and got a call from the Director of FM about an hour later. We spoke and then moved on to meet in person that Friday. During the interview which went well a lot of information was given and received. The main objectives for the position were to maintain the house, build up employee moral, and ensure quality measures were met.
They wanted the FM to be able to be on call in the event a counselor wasn’t available, manage a 16 bed house for adolescents, and to manage 20-30 people. All for $50,000.
When my salary requirements exceeded their budget the interview was over 2 minutes later.
The Tuesday after I surprisingly received a call with an offer for $55,000. - I assumed they weren’t going to call since I told them I’d be taking a major pay cut and my salary range was $80,000. So I sent an email seeing if they’d be willing to send over a benefits package and asking if $60,000 was in their range.
I got a call from someone on the East Coast trying to conduct another interview. Which was super weird seeing as I just was offered the position, we played phone tag until Saturday.
I emailed them to communicate better, they wanted to do everything by phone. Then the Director of FM sent me an email stating they were going with another candidate.
I work for a large corporation so to offer and renege and not communicate in between was really unfamiliar to me. They seem to have communication issues internally and externally.
I had read the previous employee reviews and knew going in that this company didn’t meet the average salary range in Houston for a FM. They were very nice people and had great intentions but managing 30 people and 16 adolescents for an entry level salary is asking too much for someone.
