The office and culture from the outside looking in seems fantastic. It’s a brand new office space covering 2 floors at Rookwood Pavilion and has a gorgeous overlook of Cincinnati.
About 10 minutes and a few questions in, I was informed that it was actually a desktop support position I was interviewing for, not System Administrator which is what I applied for. So that was a little bit of a letdown. However, the hiring manager seemed like a really cool guy and I was willing to get my foot in the door with a growing company so I mentioned that I was not opposed to taking a desktop support position.
After a bit longer, a senior manager asked me if I felt my interest was more of a company fit or the position. To me it was fairly obvious I was feeling it more as a company fit. He did not like that answer and the remainder of the interview was rather off putting because he assumed that because I was thinking of it as more of a company fit that I somehow was not going to take pride in or try very hard to own the support position. Unfortunately for everyone involved - he was dead wrong.
Maybe he was having a bad day, but sadly for the hiring manager, he lost out on a very loyal and hard working potential employee.
