Received an Email from HR about 2 weeks after initial application congratulating me on being selected for an interview and being given a choice of preferable time slots for a 3:1 interview. After reply, received confirmation of interview time and date. Sat down to interview with Training Manager and Scheduling Manager, instead becoming a 2:1 interview. Whole interview process took about 40 minutes. Overall the interview was comfortable and friendly.
Items that are a bit frustrating and tips:
Be sure to arrive at the campus about 20-30 minutes before your interview. This will leave enough time to clear the security gate (takes roughly 5 minutes) and to find the parking space, building, and interview room.
Ask for a map with directions to the interview location. the Delta campus can be a tad confusing, so when they say the interview will be held at OC1, you'll probably be confused as the building have no external labeling.
Delta loves to ask STAR type questions (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Every time I've interviewed with Delta, you are almost guaranteed to be hit with those. Be sure to do research on those questions to get a feel for what they may ask.
I may just have bad luck, be a horrible interviewee or just not qualified enough for Delta. Regardless of this, given my many past interviews, I feel they are horrible at follow-up. Every time I've interviewed with Delta, the hiring manager or his/her designee will say they are looking for someone to start as soon as possible, and you should expect to hear about a decision in the next week or two. Sometimes they we will be ambiguous and say a decision will be made in a couple of weeks. For this position, after being told I would hear something in 2 weeks, it was a month and a half until I got one of their rejection emails. There wasn't even a reply to the thank you letter I had sent following the interview. When I received the rejection email, it was one of those generic canned emails. I've gotten many of them, and they are either 1 of 2 types ( 1.We received an overwhelming response, we feel humble, we regret to inform you..2. (paraphrasing) Although your background is impressive, we've decided to go with someone else.)
I'll bet working at Delta can be quite a rewarding experience. Many people want to work there, so it is fact that getting a job at Delta is extremely competitive. Just to give you a sense at how competitive the position is, I was told there were over 1,700 applications for that position. Out of 1,700 applications, 747 were filtered as being qualified. Out of the 747, under 10 (I forgot the exact figure) were selected to interview. Out of those 10, half were internal candidates, including one that was a DGS contract worker that was doing basically the same function. The application and interview process overall is so stressful and can be very frustrating due to lack of communication on there end. Good luck to all of you that decide to take on this feat.
