I was contacted via email after applying for a position online via LinkedIn. I immediately responded with availability for a Skype interview which was conducted 3 days later.
The "interview" was really not a typical interview as the manager did not ask me questions regarding my experience and skills, but rather talked more about the role and requirements--so it was more informative than anything. I tried to express my previous experience and my passion for the company but was met with a seemingly disinterested reponse. The manager seemed to be in a rush which made me feel like my time was not respected. The interview was conducted in quite an unprofessional manner.
I felt very strongly that my past experiene and skills matched perfectly with the role but was turned off when the manager immediately discouraged and doubted me because my personal work was not identical to the style of work they produce. However, my skills were present, so it was a bit of a strange comment to make. Why then would she bother to interview me?
I immediately followed up and expressed further enthusiasm for the company and role. I did not get any reply for a week. I submitted the required editing assessment ahead of the provided deadline and the manager did not download the assessment until the very last minute and ignored my previous email. This was not a good sign to me. I then received a very impersonal, copy-and-paste, generic rejection email from a no-reply email address--not even from the manager herself. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I can now understand the other negative interview reviews on here.
