      Game Tester Interview

      Dec 18, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 8 months. I interviewed at Electronic Arts in Apr 2021

      Interview

I send an online application and I got invited to take an online assessment, which I took within the stipulated timeframe. I heard back only a month after taking the test asking for my availability for an online interview, to which I said yes. The interview took place over Zoom and there was the linguistic team leader and two other game testers of my native language. The interview was not good, they didn't seem to like my answers at all and they looked awkward and they also made me feel awkward with their silly grilling question. They promised to give me feedback after the interview but I never got it and according to LinkedIn, they hired a non-linguist native speaker instead (I'm a linguist with a degree). After five months they posted the same job opportunity but they never asked me about my availability until after two months from the repost when the hiring manager rushed back with a number of calls and an email finally asking me if I was available. Obviously I wasn't interested any longer. The hiring process wasn't professional at all and I never felt good or an interesting candidate for them at any point of the process until they ran out of suitable native speakers. I recommend looking into this and making some changes if they want to have a supply of suitable native speaker candidates in the future.

      Interview

Initial HR screening talking about experience and personality, followed by a technical interview with someone from QA strictly about what games I play and what bugs have I encountered and if I reported them. Bad offer, long shift with long commute, no remote possibility, bad pay and no benefits.
