TL;DR: Engaging interview but ghosted in the end.
I applied for the position via LinkedIn and received a prompt response from the recruiter the next day. After an initial inquiry about my experience and salary expectations, I was asked to select dates and times for four interview rounds. Each round was scheduled for one hour with two interviewers; however, three of the rounds were attended by just one interviewer. As the role was remote in Ireland, all interviews were conducted over Zoom.
The process began with an introductory chat with the hiring manager, who was polite, professional, and approachable. They provided a detailed overview of the role, the team, and the company, making it a great icebreaker. The first technical round was a Python coding exercise led by a team manager. The questions focused on app integrations, API calls, error/exception handling, and code performance optimization. It was a challenging yet engaging session.
The second round was with a Principal Engineer and centered around the current threat landscape, writing detections, situational scenarios, and "tell me about a time" questions. Although the questions appeared to follow a predefined list, the interviewer was engaging and pleasant, creating a positive experience overall. These first two rounds were conducted back-to-back on the same day.
The third round involved a manager and a Detection Engineer, focusing on automation in detection engineering. Questions revolved around past automation experience, situational scenarios, and tool-based discussions. While standard and structured, the questions were thought-provoking and relevant to the role. The interviewers were respectful and professional throughout. The final round was with the hiring manager again, blending technical and situational questions. At the end, I was assured of feedback soon. However, despite the time and effort invested, I was ghosted by the recruitment team.
While the interviewers were professional and made the process a largely positive experience, the lack of follow-up was disappointing. Candidates deserve at least a basic acknowledgment, even if unsuccessful. Ghosting after multiple interview rounds reflects poorly on the recruitment process and undermines an otherwise positive experience.
