      Technical Writer Interview

      May 8, 2024
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at FullStory in Apr 2024

      Interview

The full process: - 30 Min recruiter screen - 45 Min hiring manager screen - A series of four 30 min calls with an Eng Manager, Head of Success, Head of UX, and the hiring manager - Offer call - Unexpected "offer rescinded" call Some of the interviewers in the panel were great - they asked thoughtful questions and seemed genuinely passionate about their work. However, along the way, I was asked questions that are illegal to ask in the state of California. I understand the company operates in a different state, however, you should have your interview process set up to avoid these types of questions. Throughout the process, they would call my phone at unscheduled times just to "check in" with no additional info or questions. I have no idea if that was supposed to be some kind of test, or indicative of the company culture. It felt like a red flag. I was given an offer, and then it was rescinded as soon as I let them know I'd received a second offer. I wasn't given a chance to decide between them. I was planning to pick FullStory, but they didn't give me the chance to even do that, even when I asked if there was anything I could to to get them to reconsider. A strange interview experience that left me feeling like I may have dodged a bullet by not getting the chance to accept, assuming the interview process is indicative of the actual company culture. Though I really wanted to work here, especially with the people I met in the panels I no longer wish to after this interview experience.

      Interview

This process was all over the map due to what felt like constantly restructuring and layoffs. No one was unpleasant but the process was certainly a disaster to the point of being unprofessional. - scheduled for a screening and then when I virtually arrived was told that this call was not a screening it was just to tell me that I wouldn’t be interviewing because they were already going to offer with others and couldn’t start interviewing me for equity reasons but the role paid X amount. - I get an email a week later explaining that I now will be interviewing but things are up in the air about the role and they’ll get back to me - I get a call explaining that the hiring manager has quit, the role now pays way less for some banding related reason and that they are rewriting the job description —would I still want to interview? I ignore the red flags and say yes because it sounds like a difficult time for everyone and the job market is the worst it maybe has ever been. - they never send me a new job description prior to my next interviews - I have an interview with the hiring manager and the role seem like a solid fit even though they are leaving the company and I’d have to report into higher levels - I go to a technical interview where it feels the interviewer has a totally different job description that I’m still thankfully an experienced fit for. I ended up rejected in a timely fashion which was the only positive part of this process. Of course anyone could not be a culture fit but my guess based on the constant back and forth here is that they never hired anyone or paused the process waiting to first backfill the hiring manager but were too embarrassed to say so.
