Reached out to by a recruiter and 30 minute screening. 30 minutes with Hiring Manager. 3 hours with potential colleagues in same afternoon w/some scheduled breaks. All STAR type of questions. This role is on the newly formed NAF business. In hindsight, it's a little disheartening to think about, but I am under the impression that my entire interview was essentially a practice run and more of a feeling out for this team. Not that they are deliberately wasting everyone's time, but the signs were all there and in a time where companies (especially the larger high reputation organizations like GM) are posting jobs (ghost jobs) with really only the intention of hiring "top" talent that blows them away, I think they used the opportunity to continue figuring out exactly what they want the role to be as they build the org. Only 30 minutes with the hiring manager where there really was no substantial conversation, and more just me checking things off a list of what they were hoping for in a candidate. Then moved on to "final" interviews with three team members. I could have very well not done as well as I thought, but I felt I did everything needed in a "final" interview to cross the finish line. Now, there are other signs that I should mention regarding my thoughts that this role and the interviews weren't really "real". The role when I was reached out to had less than 50 applicants on the posting on LinkedIn. It was reposted during my interviews and only had a couple dozen or so more applicants over the next couple of weeks. This is extremely low for such a well regarded company. If you dig a little bit more, you can find that this role has actually been open for more than three months (around the time the hiring manager was brought to lead this function) and they've just been reposting it every thirty days. I get wanting to find a great candidate, but I have a hard time believing that they haven't been able to find one in more than three months considering that I made the "final" interview within two weeks. General Mills has always had the pick of the litter for talent. There's something just off with the integrity and intentions of this process. I don't want to blame GM and or the people involved with the process. The market is very competitive and there aren't any of the typical factors that are pushing these larger strong established companies into actually making hires. It makes sense to post these "ghost jobs" on the chance they can get a unicorn into the organization.
