I was contacted by Matt Armstrong, their talent acquisition partner, and asked to complete two online assessments: IQ and personality. They went to surprisingly great lengths to justify this process in a video they linked, claiming everyone at their company has to take these exams and that it's standard procedure. I'm not really sure why they place so much emphasis on them—I wasn't given a single coding assessment and was instead asked to solve logic puzzles that mostly required pattern identification (something I am fortunately good at). That said, they weren't really all that difficult. Even the math ones, about which another candidate here complained, were fairly trivial; you aren't allowed to use a calculator, but anyone with basic algebra skills and a pen and paper can solve them, especially at a college level. As if that wasn't annoying enough, though, Matt contacted me again and told me I needed to take the same IQ test yet again, but this time proctored using some third party based in India. To do this, I had to upload a government-issued ID to the proctor's website (which in itself is very fishy and risky) and enter lots of personal information on their site that, per the proctor, will be collected and potentially shared with third parties. Awesome. (The only thing they didn't ask me was my SSN, which is surprising tbh.) The proctoring service was, as expected, atrocious. I don't know why they picked the most obscure and low-quality proctoring service among hundreds of more popular options, but they did, and it was a piss-poor experience. What should've taken 5 minutes of setup time as the proctor claimed in fact took about 30 minutes. A while after submitting the exam, I was invited for an on-site interview with four members of the engineering team. They asked basic questions about my interests, as well as grilled me on my technical skills in terms of theoretical knowledge. Pretty standard stuff for a technical interview. I left the interview confident that everything went well. It certainly seemed that way based on their reactions to my answers. I was told by one of the engineers that I'd hear back from Matt about three days after the interview. A week passed, and I didn't get any response, so I kindly followed up with Matt to get an update on my application. He responded the next day saying he'd circle back with the team and get back to me. Five days later, and still no response, so I followed up again. He responded asking me to clarify what hourly commitment I'd be able to handle in the fall alongside my coursework, to which I responded accordingly. It seemed like there was a lot of miscommunication because I had already answered that question during the in-person interview with the team. Six days later, and no response from him or anyone on the team. I followed up again and didn't hear anything. Today, I received a generic/template email from him telling me they decided to move forward with another candidate. The only good thing I got from this interview was extra practice with the experience and the types of questions I get asked. I'm honestly glad I didn't get this position; judging from the other reviews on here, as well as from my personal interview experience, it doesn't seem like the people at Greenway are very big on communication or respect for people's time and commitments.
