The internal recruiters of Horizon Media contacted me. I had a phone call with the recruiter and another phone call with the manager of analytics that screened me before I was invited to the interview. It was a little bit weird that a manager is screening for a director level position. This manager didn’t ask any smart questions but was very interested to fish for confidential information at my current company, which I answered that I am not allowed to share but I will be happy to answer other questions. Nevertheless, I accepted to be interviewed on site. In the invite, they mentioned that there will be a 30 minutes assessment and I will be interviewed by the manager (again!) and an SVP. Once I came to their offices, the recruitment/hr team sat me in a room with a computer and gave me a paper with instructions for supposedly an "assessment". This assessment, turned out to be a request to fit a marketing mix model in R. Yes, you read that right. I always heard stories about companies that are trying to fish for free knowledge during interviews, but this experience makes Horizon Media the fishing queen!
If you like giving free full code to a company during an interview process, go ahead and interview with Horizon Media. I declined to fit the Marketing Mix Model and explained to them, very politely, that it’s disingenuous to ask from a candidate to produce work that’s worth $$$, for free. I still proposed to explain in words the concepts related to Marketing Mix, but all they wanted from me was the code. They also told me that I will have to wait an additional 30 minutes for my interviewers, At that point i had enough so I decided to leave the premises. It was disrespectful, dishonest and a gargantuan waist of my time.
