I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Hy-Vee (Kansas City, MO) in Aug 2013
Interview
Applied online and waited a couple of days to follow up. I asked for the HR Manager and the HR Manager said she is unable to look at my application until the closing date closes. A few days after the job closing date I received an email saying that I wasn't qualified. A couple weeks later they had the same job posting posted so I updated my application and applied again. A few days after the closing date I received a phone call to set up an appointment. I had the interview today (it's Tuesday) and I feel like I screwed it up. The HR Manager was very nice and relaxed. But because this was my very first interview I was nervous so I stuttered, rambled, and blanked out on a few questions. At the end of the interview she told me that she still had more interviews and that I will know if I am hired or not Monday after 6pm. She said if I get a phone call I am hired and if I get an email I am not hired. I received a phone call at 5:40 pm from the hiring manager saying I was hired.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Questions were not hard:
Tell me about yourself?
Tell me about your personality?
Why do you want to work here?
What's your availability?
Do you know anybody that works here?
Very straight forward with little hard skills required. Mostly basics on background. Previous experience not necessary. The job is quite flexible on hours and scheduling, but it does depend on location obviously.
Very easy, took less than 30 minutes and asked very simple questions to get a feel for your personality. It’s a very simple role so this is not that surprising.
Not very difficult in my opinion. This is a checker position--they are just trying to understand basic values and decency. Which shouldn't be a problem as long as you have them.
No prep required, I would say.
