I was contacted by a recruiter from Insight Global for a Chief of Staff position with Cisco in Raleigh, NC. At first, the recruiter seemed extremely “on top of her game” left me a voice mail and followed up with an email. I returned her call and she told me, “I was perfect for this position” for her client at Cisco. She asked me what my current salary was and I told her what my minimum requirements would be to transfer to Cisco. The recruiter proceeded to schedule an in-person interview with me at the end of that week. I then had a phone interview with her boss at Insight Global (prior to my in-person interview). He was nice but didn’t really understand what was expected out of the position with Cisco. He verbatim said to me, “does this sound like something you’d be interested in; I am not really sure what the position entails and am kind of flying by the seat of my pants right now”.
My in-person interview was terrible. I have never in my life been to an interview where the interviewee didn’t discuss the job opportunity, until this “interview”. I met with the recruiter from Insight Global who contacted me originally. Not once did she mention anything pertaining to the position with Cisco. All she did was talk about her personal plans for Halloween and the costumes her coworkers wore. She then asked me to fill out information on a computer and told me I could just leave whenever I was finished. This was the most unprofessional interview I have ever experienced in my life.
I received an email a few days after my “interview” from the recruiter concerning the position with Cisco. She notified me that “unfortunately Cisco was looking for someone with more corporate experience”. I was shocked at this point. I have been working a corporate position for more than 7 years. I still wonder if this recruiter even looked at my resume or why Cisco is wasting time (and money) with paying third party recruiters.
