I applied here, and they set up an initial conversation with the recruiter. This was followed by a HackerRank test, timed at 60 minutes. Then there was a conversation with the hiring manager. After that, another conversation with the recruiter about the interview loop. Then the interview consisting of two one hour coding sessions, a 45 minute system design session, 45 minutes to discuss culture fit, and 30 minutes with the hiring manager to close. I found the HackerRank test to be pretty simple. The instructions are a lot to read, but a lot of it is irrelevant, so focus on the parts that matter, and look at the examples. Once you see what is being asked, the coding is straight forward. I didn't like the coding sessions for the interview. The day before, they will send you a repository to clone and set up, then for the coding sessions, you pick tasks to complete in the project. Usually, when a company requires some sort of project setup for an interview, I simply pass. There are always issues with environment setup on different computers, libraries you haven't used before, organization and coding style you're not used to, and here you are, digging through it all, trying to understand and make changes in a short period. Interviews are stressful enough without adding this stress. Setup took a couple hours, with a couple issues to debug to get the project to work, but mostly it's time spent downloading and installing. The people in your sessions are supposed to help you like your co-workers would, but communication wasn't great. I got a lot of advice that didn't make sense, or was wrong. One interviewer asked me a question on how I would implement a task, and I explained, but also said their request was not what the task was asking for, and stated why. I was then given a long-winded explanation of how we must understand differently, as they repeated the same thing I had just said back to me. It made me think that people here would be willing to help you, but you may not want the "help". The system design round was conducted with Google Slides, which really wasn't helpful. A simple shared notepad would have been easier. It also really bothered me that they wouldn't discuss compensation up front. I'm supposed to go through all this without knowing if they'll make a decent offer?
