Interview
The position was posted on both governmentjobs.com as well as the Jefferson County employment website. Must be a graduate of an accredited law school and must be a member of the Colorado Bar at the time of application. They said they had over 100 applicants for the position and that 20 people were selected for initial interviews, with only 3 people moving on to the final interview stage with the District Attorney. The initial interview was conducted by the Chief Deputy District Attorney of the County Court division, a long-time investigator with the office, and 2 other people. The interview lasted close to a half an hour. Most of the questions were standard interview questions like, why do you want it be a deputy DA and why do you want to work in this judicial district (keep in mind that the district includes both Jefferson and Gilpin counties when answering this question). The questions from the other people in the room were similar to the question asked by the investigator: what do you expect out of an investigator?

The most difficult question was a role playing exercise, where you played the role of a deputy DA who was meeting with a domestic violence victim who was recanting what she told police and was trying to get the charges dismissed. It lasted longer than I thought it would.
