I arrived and was signed in by a member of staff, before being taken to a waiting room. I met a general manager and she lead me to a small interview room where the assessment process took place. Since the job was focused on the warehouse and stock side, I was initially given a blind sorting task to place stock items into an order given their date, weight and food category. The three categories were fresh fruit and veg, fridge/freezer and food cupboard - making sure you arrange them via date, with the heaviest on the bottom. You'll need to be quick about this as you only have about five minutes, but it's relatively straight forward once you get your bearings. The next step was a role play, where I had to choose between helping unload stock items from a delivery vehicle or attend to a spill on the shop floor. Remembering M&S pride themselves on customer service, and there's a health and safety issue at hand - you know which is more important! Finally, after successfully getting through the initial assessment I had an interview with a manager. This was relatively straight forward and laid back, where you're basically asked why you'd work at M&S and what you know about the company.
